CANDLE CARE

At Ooh La Light Candles we want to uplift your spirits and fill your space with joy, love, creativity, and relaxation. To ensure you get the most out of this sensory experience, we've put together some simple and effective candle care tips below.

  1. Trim the Wick: Before lighting a candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch to prevent excessive smoking and ensure a clean burn.
  2. First Burn is Important: Allow the candle to burn for a few hours on its first use. This helps create an even wax pool and prevents tunneling.
  3. Avoid Drafts: Keep candles away from drafts to ensure an even burn. Drafts can cause uneven melting and smoking.
  4. Use a Snuffer: Instead of blowing out the candle, use a snuffer to extinguish the flame. This helps prevent wax splatter and keeps the wick in good condition.
  5. Center the Wick: Ensure that the wick is centered before lighting the candle. A centered wick promotes an even burn and prevents the candle from burning on one side.
  6. Keep the Wax Pool Clean: Remove any debris, such as matches or wick trimmings, from the wax pool to prevent them from catching fire.
  7. Burn in Sessions: Avoid burning candles for more than 4 hours at a time. Give the candle a break to cool down before relighting.
  8. Rotate Candles: If you have multiple candles in a room, rotate their positions regularly to ensure even burning.
  9. Store Candles Properly: Keep candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat can cause candles to warp or soften.
  10. Use Candle Holders: Place candles in appropriate holders to catch any dripping wax and to provide stability.
  11. Choose the Right Size: Select a candle size that suits the room. Larger rooms may require larger candles for a noticeable fragrance.
  12. Repurpose Leftover Wax: Instead of wasting leftover wax, consider using it in wax warmers or melting it to create new candles.
